Long-lasting niche fragrances - difference between EDP and EDT

Long-lasting niche fragrances: Eau de Parfum or Eau de Toilette?

Yú Parfums is a community of niche fragrance fans, delivering unique olfactive experiences for those seeking inspired scents.

Niche parfums are discreet by nature, although they are niche because they are limited. A more sustainable alternative to mass produced perfumery, niche fragrances are crafted with smaller production chains in limited supply to provide unique fragrances not widely available.

For those in the niche fragrance community the difference between Eau de Parfums (EDP) and Eau de Toilettes (EDT) may be obvious. However, many people still search for the most long-lasting niche fragrances, which makes us wonder... Do you know the difference?

What is the difference between Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette?

The main difference between Eau de Parfum formulas and Eau de Toilette scents is very simple: it's the concentration of the fragrance.

Generally, the concentration of an Eau de Toilette is between 8 per cent and 12 per cent. In comparison, the concentration of Eau de Parfum fragrances is between 12 per cent and 18 per cent. While they can vary, this is the usual distinction.

What does concentration mean, you ask? Concentration essentially means how strong or intense a formula is. Higher concentration means there will be more perfume oil (thought to be 20% in its pure form) in the formula.

Do Eau de Parfums last longer than Eau de Toilettes?

An Eau de Parfum does last longer than an Eau de Toilette. Due to its higher concentration, the fragrance is less diluted - if you will - and it will last four to six hours on the skin before reapplication is necessary.

In contrast, an Eau de Toilette is lighter in concentration and therefore lasts between two and four hours on the skin. Eau de Parfums are sometimes too intense or strong for certain people, who may prefer to layer their fragrances or simply want a breezier scent.

Yú Parfums fragrances are all Eau de Parfums (it's in the name!) because they are uncompromising. Eau de Toilette versions of Eau de Parfum fragrances often include slight alternatives in the notes to accommodate for the lighter concentration, which is great for some but not what we want for Yú.
